Free File provides taxpayers the opportunity to file their state and federal income tax returns electronically. Once the IRS approves the federal return, North Dakota receives the state return along with a copy of the federal return.

The Office of State Tax Commissioner does not charge a fee for electronic filing. Companies on this list may charge a small preparation fee unless you meet the criteria to file a free state and federal return.
North Dakota collaborates with tax preparation software companies to provide completely free filing of tax returns for some taxpayers. To qualify for these free services, you must meet certain criteria defined by each company offering free services
